The Dubliner Magazine has carried an article on Ballymun in its May issue. This is a positive article outlining how attractive the area has become during the regeneration. It opens: "Not to be confused with Ballymoney, a tiny coastal village in Wexford, annexed by D4 mummies and their offspring every summer. Ballymun is famous for its flats – ill-conceived high-rise towers thrown up as a quick-fix solution to the housing crisis of the 1960s when the city-centre tenements were collapsing. Lack of amenities and poor maintenance over the years forced disillusioned residents to band together to combat the resulting cycle of disadvantage and campaign for improvements. The suburb is now undergoing a multi-billion euro renewal." Read the full article on The Dubliner website here

Ive been running another successful website for the last year or so and thought Id let you all know about it. - its based around the principle of The Law of Attraction as popularised by the movie, The Secret..
I find this whole concept fascinating and just like this website, I like to write about what I am passionate about. I believe the ideas presented by The Secret could be used deliberatly to change lives on a personal, local and global scale. It would be interesting to get a discussion going on how as a group we could positively affect the 'vibration' of Ballymun (i.e. The feel good factor of the area). Expect a followup forum post on this - Id love to hear from likeminded people with a Ballymun connection. So even though its slightly off-topic, I felt compelled to tell you about this site. Thomas Clarke tower is currently being demolished... AT NIGHT!
The reason for this is that the demolition crew need to close the stretch of road that runs between the junction of Sillogue Road / Balbutcher Lane, and the Ballymun Road. I'll be posting photos and videos shortly, be sure to revisit for the latest updates. |
