Ballymun (Baile Munna in Irish) is an area on Dublin's Northside close to Dublin Airport currently undergoing demolition and regeneration. Located on Dublin's Northside close to Dublin Airport , it is currently best known for the Ballymun flats, a development of seven apartment towers and many smaller "step-up" blocks (i.e. no elevator). The seven towers are currently in the process of being demolished.
Historically, Ballymun was a larger area than it is now, but due to what were seen to be undesirable associations, the area has shrunk since the completion of the flats. For instance in the early days of Dublin City University, then called National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin, this institution was referred to as being in Ballymun (part of the "Ballymun Project") whilst today it is referred to and has a postal address in Glasnevin even though it has not changed location, indeed much of the present day Ballymun town center comprised of the northern site of Albert Agricultural College, the forerunner of the present-day university, Dublin City University. Despite these slightly negative associations Ballymun is in fact a thriving community with a high standard of living. New housing estates are currently being built and will most likely be bought by young aspiring businessmen as their first step on the Property ladder. The rest will be occupied by the former residents of the flats. Streets have also been renamed, for example the now Glasnevin Avenue was formerly called Ballymun Avenue. The term "Glasnevin North" also appeared to describe areas formerly part of Ballymun.
The lines "I see seven towers/But I only see one way out" in the U2 song 'Running To Stand Still' are a reference to the towers in Ballymun.
Moreover, in the U2 song 'Bad', the song and lyrical focus is on drug use in the Ballymun flats. (Taken from Wikipedia article on Ballymun) |

This may sound like a very fanciful statement to many people but not to Hugh
Chambers who is a Holistic Psychotherapist and yoga teacher who has many
years experience, in coaching people to get their goals.
Here is an excerpt from an interview Hugh gave to our site.

Q. So what is it that you do Hugh?
HC. I am a success Coach.
Q. How do you train people to succeed.
HC. Few realise that the difference between a person succeeding and failing in
any area is not how educated, talented, or good looking you are, but the ability
you have to use more of your mind. What I do is help people to use more of their
mind. Just a simple switch in your mind makes the magic difference. We
have all known people throughout our lives that had this ability naturally -
without any training.
They always seem to do well in any field they apply themselves to. Their
mind has given them the green light to thrive in the right relationships,
fulfilling jobs, sporting success, financial freedom, and whatever else they
might desire. On the other hand, many of us only have a stop sign or red
light on in our minds. This mental barrier denies us access to the most vital
areas of our lives. With a mindset full of obstructions, it’s very hard to
turn our dreams or goals into reality.
Q. That doesn’t paint a very pretty picture for people.
HC. Yes but unfortunately most people fall into this category. The good news is
that there is now a system devised that helps people escape from all of this.
The name of this system is The Success System That Cant Fail. This is the same
system that is used by anyone who has ever succeeded in life in any given
situation.
Q. Can you really change a person around from living a so so mundane life
into an exciting challenging life.
HC. All it takes is to activate in the persons mind what they really want to do,
where you help make the passion in them for doing this stronger than what
normally holds them back. This can have huge repercussions for the good in every
area of a persons life.
Q. That sounds very easy but is it harder to do it in practice.
HC. No it’s not that hard to do at all I can usually go through the process with
people in a little over an hour.
Q. Where do you do these presentations?
HC. Actually I am doing one in Ballymun next Thursday 8th Sept at 8.00pm in the
Ballymun East Community Centre, beside the Virgin Mary School, Coultry Rd.
Q. What do you charge for the presentation.
HC. I don’t charge anything for the presentation it is free.
Q. Have you a leaflet about the presentation?
HC. Yes you can display it on your site if you like.
Q. Ok we would be delighted as it could prove to be a very informative night
for people in Ballymun.
HC. Thanks for the chat. |
